Lake Como and Switzerland

From Nice our next stop was Lake Como. It was really just a half way point on our way to Zurich, but we wish we could have stayed longer. It is a beautiful part of the world and there was so much more to see.

We arrived mid-afternoon and after figuring out where the hotel was we drove past the main Piazza and wouldn't you know it, a car show! They just seem to follow me around, you wouldn't read about it. Well... you might.

It turns out it was actually the start of a rally put on by the Classic (or was it Touring) Car Club of Lake Como. Who knew a Gemini wagon was a classic or touring car? It is when it's an Opel Kadett and is optioned up with the big-block ONE LITRE engine!!! They're a funny bunch these Europeans.

For a minute I thought local Perth hot rodder Sil Zammit had followed me to Europe, but on close inspection this neat looking T-Bird wasn't anywhere near as nice as his. Still pretty cool for this part of the world.

It was then time to do some touristy family stuff (the cars had all left by now anyway) and we headed out on the last ferry of the day. Luka was actually a bit grumpy this afternoon, but as soon as I pointed the camera on him, the smiles came out.

And they just kept coming when this group of Italian girls took him off our hands for half an hour or so. They really do love kids in Italy and quite often people will come up for a chat. It's quite amazing really.

Here's Luka listening to a young Italian girl telling him what it's all about.

Sadly we had to leave Lake Como and head to Zurich as we had pre-booked accommodation. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what the Zurich locals call a beach! Hmmm... nice...

And this is a Swiss Bank.

I think it's amazing how Luka has to be carried around when he is fully capable of driving and drinking beer...!

Thanks for sharing your trip with the HAMB'rs in America...!
